On This Day: September 6th

September 6, 2005

Walk-off HR against the Angels. After the game, I was given a plaque by John Henry that reads, “The Greatest Clutch Hitter in the History of the Boston Red Sox, David Ortiz, No. 34”

That was awesome. Obviously I was just doing my job to get on base and help to win the game, but having a walk-off homerun is always nice.  I think it was my 6th as a Red Sox at the time.  Afterwards, John (Henry) and Larry (Lucchino) gave me that plaque and I couldn’t believe it.  The faith they had in me as a player to give me that title and then put it on a plaque was just incredible.
