Big Papi To Speak At UMass Freshmen Welcome Ceremony

BOSTON -- Big Papi will be speaking to first-year students at the University of Massachusetts Boston's freshman investiture ceremony Sept. 13.

David Ortiz, the retired Red Sox slugger, will give the address at the official welcome to the university to the Class of 2021, according to the UMass-Boston website.

The talk is at 3:30 p.m. in the Campus Center, 3rd-floor ballroom.

Big Papi played for the Sox from 2003 until 2016, when he retired.

In May, Boston University granted Ortiz an honorary doctorate of humane letters at its 2017 commencement ceremony.

BU honored the former Red Sox star's accomplishments as a most valuable player and all-star hitter, as well as his charitable work through the David Ortiz Children's Fund.

His number 34 was retired at Fenway Park earlier this year.
