Arias

Following his retirement, David Ortiz was inspired to launch a wine brand that would go by the name Arias. Arias was the surname of Ortiz’s mother who tragically passed in ’02. Ortiz famously pointed two hands to the sky after each home run to pay tribute to his mother. This tribute led Ortiz to Peter Ianniello who shared a similar moment. Ianniello was in his vineyard when his mother called to say she had pancreatic cancer. After reflecting, Ianniello believes that his passion for his vineyard helped him to cope with this grief. Arias wine bottles feature the image of Ortiz pointing to the sky, symbolic of the tribute both had for their mothers. Arias’ wine lineup consists of a merlot, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, and a bottle Ortiz calls “Christalan” named after a statue in Saratoga Springs. The Christalan stands for resiliency and overcoming adversity to turn into a positive. The Arias brand is about celebrating the rising of the human spirit, and to never quit.
